MILITARY RECRUITER ALERT!!!!

Your high school could be providing military recruiters with your child’s private contact information!

Under the 2002 “No Child Left Behind” law, all public high schools MUST provide their kids’ names, home phone numbers, and home addresses to military recruiters or lose federal funding.

How can you make sure your child’s personal information stays protected from military recruiters?

Sign this “Opt-Out” form and send it to your child’s high school. Families have a RIGHT under the “No Child Left Behind” law to prohibit the release of personal information for military recruitment purposes.

BUT, you have to let the Bellingham school district know in writing by

SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2005.

Click here for a Word document of the form.

Other school districts may have different deadlines; call yours to find out.

Help create the Peace Tax Fund by urging Representative Rick Larsen to co-sponsor the Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund when it is re-introduced in Congress this year. The bill number was H.R.2037 in the 108th Congress. The purpose of the bill is to: affirm the religious freedom of taxpayers who are conscientiously opposed to participation in war, to provide that the income, estate, or gift tax payments of such taxpayers be used for nonmilitary purposes, to create the Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund to receive such tax payments, to improve revenue collection, and for other purposes. Thank Senator Murray for Advocating for Veterans Health Care. Unfortunately, Murray’s amendment to boost funding for vets by $2 billion was defeated for the second time by a vote of 54-46 with all but one Republican member of the Senate voting against the veterans’ funding. “I am extremely disappointed that Republicans in the Senate have chosen to turn their backs on our veterans,” Murray said. http://murray.senate.gov/email/index.cfm or 1-206-553-5545 (Seattle office)
